Round 1 is a total tossup depending on which premier talent falls in their lap.

Round 2, Jacob Rodriguez is the dream. Reminds me of kuechly. Day 1 starter with incredible anticipation, instead of being reactive like Tremaine Edmunds.

Sidenote, Bud Clark out of TCU is the 3rd best safety (yes above McNeil-Warren) and continues to get slept on, would be great addition in rounds 2-3. Another Day 1 starter, instinctive ballhawk, vocal leader

I love the pick of C Logan Jones in round 3 and think that we could also look at Matt Gulbin from Michigan State in that range, since he’s got experience at all three IOL spots. Replacing Joe Thuney is a daunting task and we want someone to spend a year or two in the room with him, if possible. I know we have Luke Newman, but I’m not putting a lot of stock in last year’s 6th round pick. In addition, we probably will not be taking another tackle this year, re-signing Jones and bringing in Wills sure feels like a ‘kick the can to next season’ kind of move. Next year, we’ll have a better idea if Trapilo will fully recover and can spend high draft capital or even trade up for LT, if needed.

Without knowing who is on the board when these picks are made, it’s tough to judge but I feel like one of the first two picks should be the best DT available. If Peter Woods is there, run to the podium. When is the last time we had a dominant 3-tech on our team? On defense, I’m preaching that we need to be strong up the middle and I think upgrading the DL generally will benefit all three levels of the defense.

Have looked at mocks. Some one will fall to 25 that should not. DTs and Eds that grade high will be gone. Safety maybe the highest grade. Now can live with either safety. Need to get bodies in pipeline.

Agree. We need to draft like Baltimore has done for years. Grab the player that shouldn’t be there for you, but is, even if it’s not strictly a ‘need’. The draft is the best way to get top end talent in the building, coaches (or injuries) will sort things out later.

The way you all have Norton coming in to grade and offer commentary is great. Love that format!

Love the best player available approach to both of these drafts (at least in the early rounds). That’s really been Poles’s approach as GM. It especially worked out last season with Loveland and Burden. I’m not entirely opposed to focusing on traits in the later rounds.

Based on how Poles addressed safety so far this offseason, either Hoge or Jahns are going to nail their first round pick. Seems to indicate the Bears have those two safeties pretty high on their big board and they are confident one will be available at 25.
