Agree with all of your assessments. One thing that will never be mentioned regarding Bagent, and understandably so, is I think Ben and Poles also have to be thinking “what if Caleb regresses or gets hurt this season and Bagent comes in performs as well or possibly even better in this offense?” That doesn’t mean he can make the same wow plays as Caleb but his on-time passes, accuracy, decision making allow the offense to run the way Ben envisions it. That gives you another decision about possibly trading Caleb next season and probably not as big of an investment at QB for another year to build the team.
If Ben’s comments are legitimate regarding how he feels about Tyson’s ability, this has to be a consideration. I’m not saying this because I think it will happen but I find it hard to believe that Caleb (or any QB) can go 3 full seasons without missing time. Also, as complimentary as Ben is about Caleb’s ability, with good reason, he always is a bit measured in his discussions about actually executing the offense. I have not heard Ben be nearly as effusive in his praise of any player as he is with Bagent and that has been going on since training camp. Bottom line is I think the preference for them is to go one more season with Bagent as backup and hope that the progress we saw with Caleb the last half of the year goes even further and that makes the decision easier next offseason to trade Tyson.
