Sunday morning, the Chicago Blackhawks announced goaltender Petr Mrázek has been placed on injured reserve with a left groin injury and that they’ve recalled goaltender Drew Commesso and defenseman Kevin Korchinski.

Mrázek was forced to exit Saturday’s game vs Winnipeg 10:46 into the first period when his leg got tangled up with Winnipeg’s Mason Appleton. Earlier in the period, TV analyst Darren Pang noticed that Mrázek looked uncomfortable after a routine save and had a conversation during the media timeout to chat with Blackhawks head athletic trainer Joe Huff. The next sequence, he was out of the game.

UPDATE: After Sunday’s practice, interim head coach Anders Sorensen said Mrázek is expected to miss one or two weeks.

With Mrázek’s injury, Arvid Söderblom will become the Blackhawks’ starter, with Commesso serving as his backup. In 10 games with Rockford this season, Commesso recorded a 4-6-0 record with a 3.34 GAA and a .897 save percentage.

Korchinski, who has two goals and nine assists in 21 games with the IceHogs, is likely here to fill in for Alec Martinez, who left Saturday’s game after taking a puck to the face early in the third period. While the Blackhawks haven’t sent him to injured reserve as of Sunday, this indicates Martinez will miss some time.

UPDATE: After Sunday’s practice, Sorensen said Martinez is listed as day-to-day with a neck injury and will travel with the team on their upcoming three-game road trip, which begins Monday at Madison Square Garden, where the Hawks face the New York Rangers.
