I haven't played competitive basketball in 15 years, but I tried out for the Chicago Bulls G League team

A few weeks ago, members of the Chicago Bulls and Windy City PR staff reached out to propose I cover the Windy City Bulls annual open tryout.
Sure, I thought.
What's the angle?
"An inside look at the process and a focus on the G," a Bulls PR staffer texted me. "Potentially the start of your hoops career."
My dreams of playing in the NBA were crushed long ago. The tryout was on September 14, which also happened to be my 32nd birthday. I'm six years older than the average NBA player. I also stand under six feet tall with a higher body fat percentage than vertical leap — not exactly what the physical profile of an NBA player.
