There's no denying that Pete Crow-Armstrong calling off Nico Hoerner and then letting that fly ball drop in shallow center field Saturday was a crucial play.
It's not the only reason the Chicago Cubs blew a three-run lead and lost to the St. Louis Cardinals that day — newest Cub Isaac Paredes had just made a run-scoring throwing error the batter before, after all — but it's nonetheless the play people will remember. It was a painful way to turn a four-game series sweep into a 3-1 series win. And if we learned anything from the Cubs falling a game short of the playoffs last season, those painful losses with plays that should've been made do stick out.
