Adam, I agree. The toughest part of new innovations in a game as old as NFL Football is finding a balance between the known and the unknown. You can see it clearly as MLB has moved into the pitch clock era.

This new kickoff rule has so many caveats as to when, where, and how to implement it that it would be foolish to think it’s a finished product at this stage. But any innovation takes time to perfect through research, practical application of Lessons Learned, and sometimes just being able to say “Okay, that didn’t work” is the best approach.

It’s going to be fun to see the rule’s evolution.
