Happy Thursday, friends,
It’s not how you start, but how you finish.
Just ask Corey Julks and Mike Tauchman.
For the White Sox, it’s just another day.
For the Cubs, Tauchman’s walk-off blast is the kind of moment you look back on as a turning point if you’re contending in September.

How much longer is the leash for Pedro Grifol and his 76-148 record as a major league manager?
- A distraught Ozzie Guillen couldn’t process Wednesday night’s heartbreaker on NBC Sports Chicago’s postgame, saying “People have to understand, we’re not just pregame, postgame analysts. Unfortunately, unfortunately, I am a White Sox fan. That hurt. I’m getting paid to get hurt.”
- On Tuesday, ESPN’s Jeff Passan speculated that the Southsiders are open for business with the trade deadline less than two months away. It does not appear that any asset is untouchable for the White Sox, including Luis Robert Jr, Erick Fedde, and Garrett Crochet.

Chennedy Carter, Sky harassed at team hotel
A man ambushed the Sky’s team bus following its arrival at a hotel in Washington DC on Wednesday night. The man began harassing Chennedy Carter and other players as they stepped off of the bus.
Team security quickly handled the situation according to GM Jeff Pagliocca. The man approached Carter with a video camera, recording the confrontation. He posted the video online later, but it has since been deleted.
- Michaela Onyenwere tweeted that the footage posted online “was edited and doesn’t include when he harassed our staff.” Onyenwere also claimed the video removed racist and sexist remarks directed toward the team. Immediately after the incident, she thanked security for “de-escalating the situation/protecting us.”
- Angel Reese voiced her disappointment with the situation, saying “finding out our teams hotel to pull with a camera as we get off the bus and put it in my teammates face & HARASS her is NASTY WORK. this really is outta control and needs to STOP.”

Roundup: Bears’ stadium won’t receive taxpayer help, Cubs bouncing back
- Kevin Warren and the Bears originally hoped the state would approve the use of taxpayer funds toward a new stadium before the end of the legislative session last week. That did not happen. Instead, Illinois House Speaker Chris Welch told WTTW on Monday, “As we’ve said to the Bears over and over again, to the White Sox, and also to the Chicago Red Stars, there’s just no appetite to use taxpayer funding to fund stadiums for billionaires.”
- Mike Tauchman’s walk-off home run on Wednesday propelled the Cubs to their first consecutive wins since beating the Brewers on May 4 and 5. Christopher Morel left last night’s win in the 7th inning after fouling a ball off of his toes on his left foot. However, Craig Counsell said he expects Morel to be okay.
