Bears cap chaotic week with humiliating loss to the Chiefs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — With everything that happened with the Chicago Bears this week, Sunday’s matchup with the Chiefs felt like an afterthought.

Well, America’s Game of the Week was basically an afterthought for the Bears as well as they were embarrassed, 41-10, for their third-straight loss of the season. Some viewers didn’t even get a chance to finish watching the game since Fox cut away from the broadcast to show the Cowboys-Cardinals game.

Smart move by Fox.

Prior to the absolute beatdown at Arrowhead, the Chiefs were having their “struggles” on offense, only scoring 20 and 17 points in their previous two games.

These 2023 Bears helped them get right.

Whatever struggles an opposing team has had they can get right or fixed once they face the Bears. That’s how comical things have been for the organization. And it has only been three weeks. There is no telling how much worse things can get.

Patrick Mahomes finished the game 24-of-33 for 272 yards and three touchdowns before he was taken out in with 4:37 remaining in the third quarter. The only reason the score wasn’t worse was because wide receiver Rashee Rice dropped a pass on third down — which forced the Chiefs to punt on their first offensive drive of the game. With how the Bears defense was playing, that drive would have ended with points.

The Chiefs, otherwise, had no problem with a defense that was supposedly “excited” for this matchup with the reigning Super Bowl champs. Maybe the defense wanted to see how quickly they could throw this game away. The Chiefs gained 456 total yards and finished 10-of-14 on third down. Crazy how each week the Bears continue to get worse on third down.

Or maybe the Bears’ defense knew Taylor Swift was in the house and they wanted Travis Kelce to finish with a game-high seven catches for 69 yards and a touchdown to impress his new lady friend.

Nice.

Offensively, the Bears were a disaster — which is just picking up from where the team has been the last two weeks. The Bears’ 10 points only occurred after Justin Fields and the offense capitalized off of a pair of Gabbert interceptions.

So, not saying much. Fields connected with DJ Moore on a slant route for the team’s only touchdown on the day.

Early in the week, Fields said “F it” in terms of how he wanted to play. He probably didn’t envision going 11 of 22 for 99 yards with a touchdown and interception. But given how the offensive line blocked, how the playmakers dropped passes and fumbled the ball and how Fields performed, it appeared the offense as a whole embodied that “F it” mentality.

The Bears are an absolute mess, and there is no telling when or if things will get any better.

In Week 4, the Bears will host the wineless Denver Broncos — who were just demolished 70-20 to the Dolphins. But luckily the Broncos will be facing the “Get Right” Bears at Soldier Field, and everyone knows how that will go.
