LAKE FOREST — The Chicago Bears last won a game back on Oct. 24 against the New England Patriots. Which means it’s been over two months since the team has felt the sensation of winning.
Even though Bears fans may be accustomed to being let down, this has been one lengthy losing streak.
For Justin Fields, the reasoning for wanting to get a win in these final two weeks against the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings is something anybody can relate to.
“Yeah, I mean, it would feel great,” Fields said. “I know we’re on a losing streak right now but I think winning this week and winning the last week of the season, it would be great momentum going into the offseason, so I think it’ll just feel good just ending a game with a win because we’re on an eight-game losing streak or something like that.”
It doesn’t matter if you play professional football or work a 9-5 job, seeing your hard work pay off is something most people strive to accomplish. So even though Fields is still dealing with some injuries, it makes sense why he wants to finish out these two games and hopefully secure a win.
Fields will again take the field with a roster that has been riddled with injury all season.
But the inconsistency around Fields could also be seen as a benefit.
“I just think that when you’re a quarterback you’re gonna have adversity during the course of the season,” Bears coach Matt Eberflus said. “You’re going to have some linemen out. You’re going to have some skillsets that aren’t gonna be there and he’s got to figure that out. We have to figure that out as coaches. We have to be able to figure it out and maneuver — how do we move the ball down the field when this Person X is out or Person Z is out. And we’ve just got to figure it out. It’s good for the coaches, too as well as Justin.”
Eberflus did say he thinks Fields has done well with all the changes around him, and he is excited to see what he can do in these final two games.
Fans may not agree with Fields and Eberflus, but the team does see value in winning this season.
“I feel like there’s always something to play for no matter if we’re 0-15 or right now 3-12 or 12-3,” Fields said. “My outlook on this game this weekend and today’s practice is just getting better, growing and learning. Especially it’s always good when we get to go up against a division opponent. Just playing them and kinda getting used to that, playing them and that atmosphere this weekend should be a pretty good atmosphere, so I know the guys are excited for that. So yeah, any time you get to play a game it’s just a learning opportunity and an opportunity for you to ball out and really just do what you love.”
