Instant reactions: Bears collapse against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in sixth straight loss

Brutal.

The Chicago Bears continued their streak of disappointing finishes in the 2022 season, allowing 18 fourth-quarter points to Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers Sunday at Soldier Field.

The end result was a 28-19 loss to the Packers that marked the sixth straight loss for the Bears and gave Green Bay the top spot on the all-time wins list for franchises.

Justin Fields had a great performance for most of the day, ripping off a 55-yard touchdown run in the first half and connecting on two deep balls to Equanimeous St. Brown and N’Keal Harry. But he also threw two interceptions late in the fourth as the Bears attempted to mount a comeback.

The loss dropped the Bears to 3-10 on the season as they head to their Week 14 bye.

Here are our instant reactions to the loss …

The Bears maintained their draft positioning with another fourth quarter collapse, but it still feels significant that it ended with two late Justin Fields interceptions. Overall, the quarterback played well, but it’s hard to ignore that the offense only scored three points in the second half. The play calling was way too conservative and contributed to the Packers finishing on a 25-3 run to win the game.

What felt like a Bears win turned into yet another frustrating Bears could-have-won 2022 rerun loss. Two late Justin Fields interceptions combined with zero pass rush all day plus a missed extra point and blocked field goal. 3-10 is here along with the bye week.

The Bears had more than enough chances to defeat the Packers and to finally end their five-game losing skid. But, like it usually has gone in this rivalry, Green Bay came away with a win at Soldier Field. Even in defeat, though, the Bears won. Justin Fields electrified the crowd with his 55-yard touchdown run and his down-field passing, but he was intercepted twice in the fourth quarter. The loss does keep the Bears in position to select No. 2 overall in the 2023 Draft.

Hard for me to be too upset. This is what I wanted. Yes, I want the Bears to have the No. 2 pick in the draft and I’m not ashamed in the slightest to say that. That being said, not great to see your franchise quarterback throw an interception with the game in balance. At the same time, Justin Fields had some more incredible moments that have to keep you excited for the future. First quarterback in the HISTORY of the NFL to have 3 rushing touchdowns over 50+ yards. And for the crowd that thinks he is just a running quarterback, some incredible throws as well. He just needs more help. Bottom line. The entire team needs more help. No getting around it. A No. 2 pick in the draft may give you the opportunity to set your franchise up for this bright future with Justin Fields. I’ll continue to focus on that. But I understand fans that always want to see the Bears beat the Packers. So do I. And they will next year. I promise.

This one might not sting in April when the Bears are set to pick second in the NFL draft. But it sure as hell stings now because I’m just tired of seeing the Packers beat the Bears. Better days away, but I wanted this one now.
