CHGO staff predictions: Chicago Bears vs. New York Jets

We still don’t know if Justin Fields will be taking the field on Sunday against the New York Jets, which makes issuing a prediction sort of tough. But the CHGO Bears tried anyway as the Bears head east to face the Jets’ stalwart defense.

Cyber Weekend is here! Up to 50 percent off!

Will DeWitt (5-6) — Jets 17, Bears 14

No matter who is under center for the Bears, (please don’t be Justin) this game is shaping up to be pretty ugly. The Jets boast one of the best defenses in the league that is very good at getting after passers and keeping opponents out of the end zone. And unfortunately, a Jets’ offense run by Mike White should have enough juice to get the job done and score the points needed to win against the Bears’ lowly unit. I’m not going to complicate it this week.

Mark Carman (5-6) — Jets 20, Bears 13

There is more the Bears are fighting against than they have going in their favor. A stiff Top 10 defense makes things difficult for the road dogs, as the fanbase begins to shift its focus to the bright future ahead.

Greg Braggs, Jr. (7-4) — Jets 20, Bears 13

Without Justin Fields, the Bears will have serious problems putting points on the board. Trevor Siemian may be able to move the chains from time to time but converting in the red zone will be an issue. Injuries starting to stack up last week on defense for the Bears. And the Jets might show some life with the benching of Zach Wilson. Buckle up for an ugly afternoon of football.

Adam Hoge (3-8) — Jets 24, Bears 17

Even if Justin Fields plays, I’ve learned my lesson about picking the Bears. Not going to do it. The Jets’ defense is too good and should have a big advantage up front. Mike White will probably make the Jets’ offense better.

Nicholas Moreano (3-8) — Jets 20, Bears 17

This game is a complete mess. The Jets are playing backup Mike White in place of Zach Wilson. Honestly, the Bears should do the same and play Trevor Siemian on Sunday so Justin Fields can heal, but I don’t know if they will. Still, the Jets have a defense that can absolutely mess up any quarterback’s day and that is the difference maker.

Corey Wootton (6-5) – *See below

Two different scores depending on who’s playing ! If Fields is playing 28-21 Bears. If Fields plays through the injury it reinvigorates the whole team. They got a guy who mans up in tough situations and has his teammates back. I’m not buying Mike White as a legit QB. His last start last year had four picks. David Montgomery has a big game 80-100 on the ground 40-60 out of the backfield with 2 scores.

If Fields isn’t playing 21-17 Jets win. I think it will be close and this Jets offense will struggle, but do enough to get the dub. Offensively we don’t have the explosive plays that we are used to with Fields.

Carmen Vitali (6-5) — Bears 13, Jets 7

I’ll be honest — with so much uncertainty at quarterback, I have absolutely no idea. Chicago has lost seven of eight, including three straight games by three points or fewer. But I’m going with the Bears because I trust their ground game more, even though the Jets have a top-10 run defense.

Kevin Kaduk (5-6) — Jets 16, Bears 13

You probably don’t long for the days when the Bears had a great defense and no answer at quarterback. But on the off chance you do, you’ll enjoy Sunday’s visit with the Jets. Their front seven is fearsome and should create problems for the Bears quarterback all day, regardless of who gets the call. I really wish Justin Fields would’ve had a chance to beat Zach Wilson, but alas, we’ll have to settle for drafting the best quarterback in the class of 2021.

Jake Flannigan (5-6)  —  Jets 20, Bears 13

There is more the Bears are fighting against than they have going in their favor. A stiff Top 10 defense makes things difficult for the road dogs, as the fanbase begins to shift its focus to the bright future ahead.
