It is hard to believe that we are almost halfway through November! While the current Chicago Blackhawks continue to build an identity on the ice, we will look back at some of the best moments from years past that happened this week. So, let’s strap into the CHGO time machine and enjoy our weekly trip through the decades.

Nov. 10

1910 – Jacques Toupin was born in Trios-Rivieres, QC. The right wing played eight games for the Blackhawks during the 1943-44 season and scored a goal and three points.

1942 – The New York Rangers got overtime goals by Bryan Hextall Sr. and Lynn Patrick to defeat the Blackhawks 5-3. This was the NHL’s final regular-season overtime game until the 1983-84 season when a five-minute, sudden-death period was introduced. In the earlier version of overtime, teams played a whole 10-minute extra period.

1944 – Wayne Maki was born in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. He played the first 50 games of his NHL career in Chicago and scored five goals and 10 points. Maki was claimed by the St. Blues in the 1969 NHL Intra-League draft. He is best remembered as the first NHL player to face assault charges for an on-ice incident. While with the Blues, he fractured the skull of Boston Bruins’ defenseman Ted Green when both players swung their sticks at each other. Wayne’s older brother Chico played 14 seasons with the Blackhawks and was part of the 1961 Stanley Cup championship team.

1950 – Duane Wylie was born in Spokane, WA. The center signed as a free agent in 1972 after being drafted by the Rangers. He had three goals and six points in 14 games over two seasons with the Blackhawks.

1962 – Jeff Larmer was born in Peterborough, ON. The Blackhawks acquired him from the New Jersey Devils for Tim Higgins on Jan. 11, 1984. He spent the next two and a half seasons playing with his younger brother Steve. The left wing had nine goals and 22 points in 45 games.

1962 – Goaltender Glenn Hall missed the Blackhawks’ game at the Montreal Canadiens with a back injury. This ended his consecutive games played streak at 502, a record that will never be broken. Denis DeJordy started in Hall’s place and made 33 saves in a 3-1 win. He played each of the following three games before Hall returned on Nov. 17.

2018 – The Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Blackhawks 4-0 for their 15th consecutive regular-season win against the Blackhawks in Philadelphia since Chicago’s 4-1 victory on Dec. 9, 1996.

2019 – The Blackhawks survived a 57-shot effort by the Toronto Maple Leafs for a 5-4 victory at the United Center. Robin Lehner matched his career high with 53 saves, including 23 in the third period when the Blackhawks were outshot 26-7. Brandon Saad scored the game-winning goal late in the third period.

Nov. 11

1924 – Jack Gelineau was born in Toronto, ON. The goaltender won the 1950 Calder Trophy with the Bruins. He was acquired by the Blackhawks for cash on Nov. 28, 1953, and played just two games for them, both losses. When he was called up to Boston in 1950, he was the first goalie in 30 years to play in the NHL while still going to college.

1926 – Harry Lumley was born in Owen Sound, ON. The Hall of Fame netminder arrived in Chicago as part of a nine-player trade with the Detroit Red Wings on July 13, 1950. He started 134 games over the next two seasons and went 29-85-19 with a 3.63 goals-against average (GAA). On Sept. 11, 1952, he was traded to the Maple Leafs or Cal Gardner, Ray Hannigan, Gus Mortson, and Al Rollins. “Apple Cheeks” Lumley won the Vezina Trophy with Toronto after setting an NHL record with 13 shutouts during the 1953-54 season. He was traded back to the Blackhawks with Eric Nesterenko for cash on May 21, 1956. However, he refused to play in Chicago and spent the season in the American Hockey League before being traded to the Bruins for cash.

1943 – Clint Smith scored twice, including the first empty-net goal in NHL history, in a 6-4 Blackhawks win over Boston. Bruins’ head coach Art Ross pulled goaltender Bert Gardiner with his team down a goal, and Smith made history with less than a minute to play.

1972 – Brian Felsner was born in Mt. Clemens, MI. He had a goal and four points in 12 games for the Blackhawks during the 1997-98 season. On Aug 21, 1998, he was traded to the Ottawa Senators for Justin Hocking but never played in the NHL again. He played professionally in the IHL, AHL, and Europe until 2006.

Nov. 12

1916 – Marty Zoborosky was born in Moose Jaw, SK. The defenseman dressed for one game during the 1944-45 season and did not register a point.

1931 – The Blackhawks were in Toronto to take part in the first NHL game played at Maple Leaf Gardens. The legendary arena was built in just five months in an amazing feat. A record-setting crowd of 13,233 showed up for opening night. The Blackhawks spoiled the festivities with a 2-1 win. They also won the final game played at Maple Leaf Gardens on Feb. 13, 1999.

1938 – Dennis DeJordy was born in St. Hyacinthe, QC. The goaltender appeared in 199 games for the Blackhawks between 1962 and 1970. He went 86-69-25 with a 2.75 GAA and a .914 save percentage (SV%). He and Hall won the 1967 Vezina Trophy for allowing the fewest goals in the NHL. On Feb. 20, 1970, he was traded with Gilles Marotte and Jim Stanfield to the Los Angeles Kings for Bryan Campbell, Gerry Desjardins, and Bill White.

1967 – The bitter rivalry between the Blackhawks and the Blues began when the two teams met at the old Chicago Stadium for the first time. Ken Wharram scored the 200th goal of his career and added an assist in a 5-2 win.

1982 – Adam Munro was born in St. George, ON. The Blackhawks selected the goaltender in the first round (29^th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He only played 17 NHL games and went 4-10-3 with a 3.30 GAA, .887 SV%, and one shutout.

1992 – Ed Belfour recorded his 11th career shutout in the Blackhawks’ 1-0 win over the visiting Blues. Jocelyn Lemieux scored the game’s lone goal.

1999 – Rookie netminder Steve Passmore recorded his first NHL shutout as the Blackhawks ended their nine-game winless streak on home ice with a 5-0 win against the visiting New York Islanders. Tony Amonte had two goals and an assist to go along with tallies by Josef Marha, Blair Atcheynum, and Sylvain Cote.

Nov. 13

1936 – Len Lunde was born in Campbell River, BC. The Blackhawks acquired the centerman and John McKenzie from the Red Wings for Doug Barkley on June 5, 1962. He had 10 goals and 39 points in 84 games with Chicago before the Minnesota North Stars selected him in the 1967 NHL Expansion Draft.

1938 – Wayne Hillman was born in Kirkland Lake, ON. The blueliner played the first 164 games of his 14-season professional career with the Blackhawks, scoring four goals and 16 points. On Feb. 4, 1964, he was traded with John Brenneman and Doug Robinson to the Rangers for Wally Chevrier, Camille Henry, Don Johns, and Billy Taylor.

1963 – Bobby Hull scored twice and added a pair of assists to give him 400 career NHL points as the Blackhawks beat the Bruins 6-4.

1968 – Mark Fitzpatrick was born in Toronto, ON. The Blackhawks acquired the goalie from the Tampa Bay Lightning for Michal Sykora on July 17, 1998. He appeared in 27 games during the 1998-99 season and went 6-8-6 with a 2.78 GAA and .906 save percentage. Fitzpatrick signed with the Carolina Hurricanes the following summer, where he played his 12^th and final NHL season.

1975 – John Marks set an NHL record for the fastest two goals from the start of a game by scoring twice in the first 33 seconds against the Philadelphia Flyers. Despite taking a quick 2-0 lead, the Blackhawks blew a 5-1 advantage and had to settle for a 5-5 tie. The record stood until Mike Knuble of the Bruins scored twice in the first 27 seconds against the Florida Panthers on Feb. 14, 2003. In the same game, Dennis Hull became the third-highest goal-scorer in team history when he scored his 259th career goal.

1982 – Tony Esposito became the fourth goalie in NHL history to win 400 games. He made 34 saves to help the Blackhawks defeat the Red Wings 3-2 at Joe Louis Arena. Tom Lysiak’s power-play goal midway through the third period broke the 2-2 tie.

2019 – The Blackhawks defeated the Vegas Golden Knights for the first time, scoring five unanswered goals for a 5-3 win at T-Mobile Arena. The Golden Knights went 7-0-0 in their first seven games against Chicago before losing; the Blackhawks were the last team to defeat the NHL’s 31st franchise.

Nov. 14

1925 – Ed Kryzanowski was born in Fort Frances, ON. The Blackhawks acquired the defenseman from the Bruins for cash on Aug. 14, 1952. He had zero points in five games before being sent back to Boston for more cash.

1957 – Ted Lindsay scored the 325th goal of his career during a 5-2 loss to the Bruins to become the third leading goal-scorer in NHL history.

Nov. 15

1894 – Clem Loughlin was born in Carroll, MB. The defenseman was acquired from Detroit for cash on Oct. 18, 1928. He had one assist in 24 games during the 1928-29 season.

1964 – Chris Terreri was born in Providence, RI. The veteran goaltender was traded to the Blackhawks with Ulf Dahlen and Michal Sykora by the San Jose Sharks for Belfour on Jan. 25, 1997. He played 28 games in Chicago and went 12-11-4 with a 2.56 GAA and .912 SV%. On Aug. 25, 1998, he was traded to the Devils for a second-round draft pick that was used on Stepan Mokhov, who never played in the NHL.

1964 – Bobby Hull scored three goals for the 13th hat trick of his career. He also added an assist to lead the Blackhawks to a 4-2 victory over the visiting Maple Leafs.

Nov. 16

1925 – Ray Powell was born in Timmins, ON. He was acquired from the Red Wings with Adam Brown for Pete Horeck and Leo Reise on Dec. 9, 1946. He played the only 31 games of his NHL career for the Blackhawks during the 1950-51 seasons and scored seven goals and 22 points.

1928 – Dick Gamble was born in Moncton, NB. The left wing had two goals in 14 games for the Blackhawks during the 1954-55 season before he was traded to the Canadiens for cash.

1969 – Esposito recorded his third shutout of the season in the Blackhawks’ 1-0 win over the Canadiens. He finished the 1969-70 season with 15 shutouts, an NHL record for rookies that still stands today.

1998 – The Blackhawks acquire goaltender Jocelyn Thibault and defenseman Dave Manson from the Canadiens for goaltender Jeff Hackett and defensemen Eric Weinrich and Alain Nasreddine. Thibault manned the Chicago crease for six seasons and went 137-142-37 with a 2.62 GAA, .905 SV%, and 28 shutouts.
