CHGO Staff Predictions: Chicago Bears vs. Houston Texans

Kevin Kaduk Avatar
September 23, 2022

The Chicago Bears are 1-1 after following an opening win over San Francisco with a stock road loss to the Packers in primetime on Sunday night.

Now they’re back at Soldier Field for a Week 3 date with former coach Lovie Smith and the Houston Texans. The visitors sport an 0-1-1 record and occupy a similar territory with the Bears in the national power rankings. Will a strong effort from David Montgomery be enough to move the Bears to 2-1?

Here are the picks from our CHGO Bears staff!

We want to see you at our tailgate on Sunday!

Will DeWitt (1-1) — Bears 17, Texans 14

If you’re a big fan of points being scored, this may not be the game for you as both teams average less than 15 points per game. In many ways these teams are a mirror of one another with their (should be) run-first approach and their bend-but-don’t-break defense. Every way you dice it, this is a winnable game for the Bears. It may not be a “pretty” win, but the Bears will end up on top nevertheless. Fields improves to 2-0 against quarterbacks from the 2021 draft class.

Mark Carman (1-1) — Bears 27, Texans 14

The Bears find their offensive mojo as Justin Fields has his best game of 2022 by far. Darnell Mooney shakes free for two touchdowns.

Greg Braggs, Jr. (1-1) — Bears 27, Texans 17

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous heading into this game. That being said, seems like a game for David Montgomery to run wild for 100+ yards and 2 TDs.

Adam Hoge (0-2) — Bears 24, Texans 13

Justin Fields had receivers open last week and I think he’ll find them this time around. The defense, meanwhile, won’t be tested the same way they were against Aaron Rodgers. It wouldn’t surprise me if Kyler Gordon bounces back with an interception. Takeaways are the difference as the Bears improve to 2-0 at home.

Nicholas Moreano (0-2) — Bears 20, Texans 10

The Bears rebound this week with a win. In order for that to happen, the defense has to do a better job stopping the run and rookie running back Dameon Pierce will be another tough test. Offensively, David Montgomery should be the focal point against the Texans’ 30th-ranked run defense, but incorporating more passing attempts, specifically using play action, for Justin Fields will also be key in this Week 3 matchup.

Carmen Vitali (1-1) — Bears 17, Texans 13

Bears wins behind a 300-yard passing performance from quarterback Justin Fields, who takes advantage of the Texans’ struggling pass defense.

Corey Wootton (2-0) — Bears 31, Texans 17

Luke Getsy will stick with what works this week. We will see more 21/22 personnel and set up the pass game off the run.

Kevin Kaduk (1-1) — Bears 21, Texans 10

There will be good vibes abound on the lakefront as Justin Fields and the offense rebound for the second home victory of the season.

Jake Flannigan (1-1)  â€”  Bears 27, Texans 13

Fields for the win. Lovie was fired and left Chicago after a victory, but is handed a loss in his return.
