At the 11th hour, the Cubs and Willson Contreras avoided arbitration and came to terms on a contract for 2022. But that won’t be the end of negotiations that involve the Cubs’ catcher this year.

The questions still stand: will the Cubs deal Contreras before the trade deadline as expected, or will they pull the surprising move of offering him an extension?
