Happy birthday, Chicago!

It was 185 years ago today that the Illinois state legislature enacted the city charter, officially starting the transformation of a 4,000-person trading outpost at the mouth of the Chicago River into one of the world’s most influential cities.

But what do you get a city that seemingly has everything?

How about the next era of sports coverage in a sports-obsessed town?

Today marks the birth of CHGO and it isn’t a coincidence that we’re launching on Chicago’s birthday. CHGO is reflective of the city we all love, a strong and bold community that connects with fans at the point where our shared passions meet.

We’ll be leading from the crowd, not the stage and we’ll be doing it in a variety of ways. From our daily podcasts for each team produced in our West Loop studios to insider coverage by credentialed reporters to a great collection of merch, we’re going to support Chicago’s fan culture in a way never before seen in this town.

And we’re going to do it with you. While our players and coaches come and go, it’s the generations of fans that make a day with the Cubs and Sox mean something. It’s why both sides of town feel pain when the Bears are struggling and why fans of all backgrounds feel ecstatic when the rebuilt Bulls and Blackhawks rise from the ashes. Our postgame shows and social content will reflect both our ups and downs because these are our favorite teams, too.

We’ve assembled a dream collection of over 20 Chicago media figures to lead the charge. Some you’re quite familiar with and others you’ll grow to know and love. We’re all operating under the same directive, though: Each morning we’ll wake up looking to make it more fun to be a Chicago sports fan.

How can you join in? Well, you can start following our YouTube channel for the live-streamed podcasts that will start today at 11 am or you can subscribe to your favorite team’s podcast on your preferred podcast provider. You can also join our members community and get access to our insider coverage and a special members-only Discord for diehard Chicago sports fans. Everyone who signs up for an annual plan gets a free shirt.

It’s going to be a great ride and we’re so excited to get started. Almost two centuries after Chicago’s story officially started, CHGO is here to start writing a story we can all call our own.
